Mine Master Ltd. in Wilków Poland have been operating under different company names supplying mining equipment to the market for more than 40 years. The company is based at the old “Lena” copper ore mine that closed when the deposit was exhausted in 1972. They are specialized in the production and supply of underground mining equipment for underground drilling.

Oil shale is used as a source for fuels and raw materials for chemicals. VKG is the largest manufacturer of shale oil and chemicals in Estonia. In 2014, the processing capacity of the group amounted to 2.8 million tons of oil shale and the amount of produced crude oil made up 433,000 tons.

About our Consortium:

smartHUB is the strategic alliance for machinery & mining engineering, building an IIoT ecosystem, through that data can be collected on machine performance to help clients create and deploy machines that are more suited to the task at hand. smartHUB can thus help secure better hours, improved efficiency, and better life expectancy of mining machines as well as processes.

Today, most mines are still using large amounts of paper-based information or isolated excel files. Instead of voice over IP, 4G, email, and messenger services the supervisors in many underground mines provide tasks to the operator by driving to the different workplaces or by two-way radio. Each morning it’s a challenge to find a car in the mine, as the last shift parked it somewhere and no localization data is available. Machines are used even though they urgently require planned maintenance as a lack of diagnostics. The problem – for mining industry – is that they are using an old playbook. They are investing in new machines and processes in an effort to improve their end product. That’s a laudable goal. But it’s not enough. Especially at a time when volatile resource prices, shortages of skilled labor, and heightened supply chain and regulatory risks are accentuating an already volatile market. The answer for the mining industry is Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

IIoT is embedding intelligence in industrial machines allowing them to be more efficient, self- correcting, safer, and connected, relieving mundane tasks from operators enabling them to focus on the system. IIoT provides three key benefits: industrial machines operate with more uptime; they provide more user feedback to increase efficiency and productivity, and they improve safety. All of these create higher margins. But here’s another riddle of mining industry: many companies don’t have enough digital capabilities. Traditionally, that meant they either had to build those capabilities themselves, buy them by seeking support from a qualified partner. Building digital capabilities is expensive and time-consuming. And purchasing them or partnering is often slowed by cultural gaps and miscommunications which seldom lead to real-world solutions. To truly capture digital value, technical solutions can’t be just bolted on after the fact. They need to be integrated into existing processes and reflect the real-world concerns and expertise of those increasingly challenged manufacturers and mines.

smartHUB offers mines, machine manufacturers and suppliers to gather, transmit, ingest disparate, real-time and historical data onto a scalable and fast-analysis platform to generate valuable insights. smartHUB provides a toolkit for data analytics applications for fixed and mobile assets, covering machinery and equipment in mining processes including Room&Pillar and continuous mass-transport. smartHUB offers a predictive analytics platform, which can use real-time and historical data from machinery and equipment as well as contextual information about weather and the environment to optimize operations for equipment operators and managers. This will prevent unscheduled downtime, extend the lifespan of machinery and improve equipment dispatching and planning throughout the whole product lifecycle.
